The College of Business Administration (COBA) at Texas A&M University-Central Texas welcomes highly qualified applicants for an expected position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Accounting or Business Law (taxation specialty) starting in fall 2020. This is to be a nine month, tenure-track position, but is budget pending at this time. Application reviews will begin in January 2020 with phone interviews in February if funding is approved.
It is an exciting time for COBA as our AACSB iSER was accepted in April of 2019, thus clearly establishing a path to accreditation and the successful candidate will partner with us in that effort. A&M-Central Texas is a regional teaching institution that prides itself on excellence in instruction, but also embraces a growing emphasis and recognition in research. A&M-Central Texas is unique as an upper-level institution offering just the junior and senior-level coursework needed to successfully complete baccalaureate degrees, and all coursework leading to the completion of masterâ™s degrees. We are totally dependent on transfer students, primarily from three major community colleges.
A&M-Central Texas is located on the southern edge of Killeen, TX, about 60 miles north of downtown Austin. It is a great place to live with minimal traffic and a low cost of living generally. In fact, Austin was recently named the best city to live in according to U.S. News and World Reports for the third consecutive year with Killeen itself coming in at 101st. The university is about a three hour drive from Dallas, three and a half from Houston, and two from San Antonio.
The candidate will be expected to teach three to four courses per term (3-3 guaranteed in the first year) at the undergraduate and graduate level (depending on qualifications and scholarly production), in both face-to-face and online formats in Accounting, Taxation and/or Business Law. Other responsibilities include maintaining appropriate office hours, timely responses to student inquiries, attending departmental and university functions, and performing other related duties as assigned. New faculty members are exempt from service assignments in their first year. After year one, the usual service load is one college and one university committee assignment, with ad hoc committees being filled as needed. A commitment to scholarship and publication is necessary for promotion and tenure and qualifying for a reduced teaching load.Â
